Conversations with my family…

“Communicate” is part of the Serious Conversations series.

This series began when I made the decision to pursue a career change — moving my art and textile practice from a side pursuit to a full-time career, and in doing so, relegating the role of Mother and Housewife to “hobby” status, rather than the reverse.

These pieces reflect the conversations I had with my family — conversations I needed to have, not only so my career change would be respected, but so I could recognise that if I didn’t put myself and my priorities first, no one else would.

The boys in my life are thoughtful, generous men, and picturing these conversations — with their permission — showed them in a different light.

These days, the best words a mother and wife can hear are: “What would you like for dinner, Mum?”
